WHAT'S
IT ALL ABOUT
Paragliding first appeared in the late 70's. As in
Hang Gliding, Britain has supplied many World Champions over
the years. The early gliders were, as you would expect very
simple in design with very little performance or stability.
Although paragliders look similar to conventional skydiving
parachutes, there is great structural differences. These are
needed to give paragliders the performance they need to free
fly. Paragliders can also stay aloft for hours, cruising on
warm currents of rising air and gliding for distances of over
150 kilometers cross country. All of today's gliders go through
a rigorous tests, to ensure they are as safe as possible,
before they are allowed to be sold in the UK. Training initially
takes place from low slopes, but students soon progress at
there own speed to higher more challenging flights. Paragliders
have simple controls and are easily transported in purpose
made back packs.
