To say
that a certain site has everything that a paragliding pilot could
ever want could be an overstatement anywhere else, but not here
in Algodonales.
Lying between Marbella and Seville in the South of Spain, Algodonales
is a little white washed village nestled at the foot of the 2,400ft
Lijar mountain.
Algodonales is in the mountain range that spreads for Gibraltar in
the South West to Granada and the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges to
the East, the whole area is, without doubt, one of the most spectacular
in Spain.

 |
The
stunning views over the surrounding mountains and lakes to the
south leave you gasping
for breath, while the flat lands to the north just seem to go on
for ever. Flying in this kind of beautiful countryside is what
paragliding is really all about.
The
Lijar mountain above Algodonales is also the home of numerous
families
of eagles and vultures
which constantly amaze you with their flying skills. Easily picking
out the thermals and soaring into the sky they beckon to you
to join them, and let me tell you, an invitation like that just
can’t
be ignored. |
 |
The
surrounding hills take a multitude of wind directions for all skill
levels ranging
from the gentle lower slopes for the total beginner to the powerful
thermal days in the middle of summer for the highly experienced cross
country pilots, even sand dune flying is only an hour away.
We
have picked this time of year to go because of the smooth conditions
that are expected then. In November there still is on average
20+
days flying per month so plenty of opportunity to finish your
CP surrounded by spectacular scenery. |
 |
No more climbing up hills either as transport is provided to bring
you back up to the top after every epic flight. Each flight from
the top, even without lift, should last in excess of 20 minutes meaning
that a weeks flying here for CP will greatly expand your flying time
and experience compared to a normal UK trained CP pilot.
|
 |
Flying
to Spain is usually done through Easy jet to Malaga and then
transport is laid on to take our party to Algodonales itself.
The same transport is then used for ferrying people up the mountains
or to the varying flying sites as well as retrieves for some
of the more experienced pilots.
However, if you wish a little more autonomy for the evenings, sightseeing
or the odd shopping trip into Marbella for your loved one etc, then
a car can be hired at a little extra cost.

 |
Accommodation
is based on two people sharing an apartment in the village of Algodonales
itself. However all things are possible and if you would prefer a
room to yourself or want to bring a partner or family then, please,
just ask.
We
usually meet in the local café in the town square for
breakfast before a quick briefing on the days activities. Lunch
is usually caught, on the hoof so to speak, between flights and
eaten at the top looking out over the fantastic scenery. Evening
meals are in one of the many excellent Tapas bars and restaurants
in the area that are usually open till the early hours. |
