WHAT'S
IT ALL ABOUT
Hang
Gliders first appeared in the early 70's. Britain has supplied
many World Champions over the years, and was at the forefront
of glider design for almost two decades. The early gliders
were, as you would expect very simple in design with very
little performance or stability. Today's gliders have a
similar
performance to many soaring birds, staying aloft for hours,
cruising on warm currents of rising air and gliding for
distances
of over 150 miles cross country. All of today's gliders
go through a rigorous tests, to ensure they are as safe as
possible,
before they are allowed to be sold in the UK. Training initially
takes place from low slopes, with three tether ropes attached.
It's not long before the tethers are slackened and them finally
removed .
